BREAST IS BEST!! Never give up bc not only are you giving up on yourself but you are giving up on your lil one(s)! Don't you think your lil one(s) is worth more than just a quick try & then a "well I couldn't do it..." with one excuse after another piled up on top of eachother? Or in my case 2 of the doctors that had seen my daughter (due to her having low/no weight gain for a few months- started supplementing at 2months old) told me to STOP bfing. But the funny part is, is because the one actually said because it would be best for her(my daughter) if we stopped! So I thought "How is that best for her????" And decided obviously to go with my gut & what I already knew in my heart & through learning about bfing, that we needed to continue to breastfeed. Formula added or not we were going to persevere. And so far we have- she is now 8months old & still breastfeeding & getting formula. We don't bf as much as I'd like to but we're working on that, it's mostly at night- but I know that every little bit counts! The other doctor that wanted us to stop actually called DYFS on us saying that we aren't feeding her (she was only 4 1/2 months old when we started cereal, then 5 mos 1wk when we started foods- both against what I wanted- I wanted to wait til 6months) so at about 5 1/2 months almost 6 DYFS became involved & this doctor was ecstatic about it! Needless to say we asked to always see a diff doctor than that one. But when the DYFS lady & the nurse came out to our house- the DYFS nurse actually was very uneducated about bfing as well as those doctors! She was trying to tell me I had to stop too! And even added that I should NOT be taking a prenatal vitamin( & didn't need any vits in that case!)! I couldn't believe how uneducated the people who are supposed to be people we can go to for advice & answers were! So with my journey so far fighting these battles among the battles with supply, proper positioning, etc. I could not stress it anymore how worth it, it is to persevere! And to not take no for an answer! Seek help & coninue for the health of your child(ren) & yourself!! It is the best thing for you both!!
p.s. sorry this was so long!
